Iced in

This Saturday we went to the ISU Employee's Children's Party, and then got iced in until Sunday. The Children's Party included a show by the ISU student circus, bouncers, cookies and an appearance by both Santa and the ISU Redbird mascot. By the time we got home, everything was coated in ice and the town was shut down. We had planned to have our pretend Thanksgiving on Saturday anyway (Danny misses having the leftovers), so we stayed home and cooked. Sunday, we celebrated Danny's birthday with Thai food and a cake decorated by the kids.

Clearly, I never appreciated how hard it is to be a circus performer--the pros just make it look too easy. It never occurred to me that the circus would actually be more interesting if serious bodily harm was likely (like NASCAR or Hockey?) Several students fell during the performance. I also never thought about the fact that most people (even athletic undergrads) just don't look very tasty in skin-tight sparkly spandex.

Argos did not really understand the whole ice thing. When I let him out of the house, he slipped and slid on his belly all the way to the bottom of the stairs. Once he got outside, he kept licking the icy bricks--I was waiting inside with a cup of hot water in case his tongue got stuck.

Fake Thanksgiving. We cooked a little tiny turkey, with cornbread dressing, three kinds of yam (I am determined to find some yam dish that the kids will eat), homemade cranberry sauce, cornbread, green beans, and apple-pomegranate pie for dessert.

Danny's birthday. The kids decorated the cake. It was chocolate with chocolate frosting and pomegranate jelly in the middle. The kids were very creative (and generous) with the decorations.
