Downsizing

This week Danny and I have been downsizing our possessions. Our new house is about 2/3 the size of our current house, which is not so bad. However, the new place has no garage and no basement. We got rid of loads of stuff when we moved here from CA. But this recent downsizing is pretty extreme.

Some of the stuff that we are getting rid of we will likely have to buy again in the future. (But it would be cheaper to do that than rent a storage unit.) We have been selling off furniture on Craigslist, and the kids will be getting a more space-efficient bunk bed. We have also had to get rid of all sorts of nostalgic stuff. However, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I have been trying to convince the kids to part with various large and bulky toys, but I have had little luck. I have no idea how we are going to fit their stuff into this house. So, to the viewing audience and all ships at sea, I implore you not to give us anything large. Also, if you have ever admired anything in our house, ask us--it may be up for grabs...

My husband, who mind you has had a bit to drink tonight, just asked if Susan was up for grabs. I seriously hope this doesn't ruin our friendship.

I am flattered, but I think that I might be taken. (Ask Danny--if he puts me in the Goodwill pile, he can keep his D&D dice and chain mail.) But if you really want to ruin our friendship, send me something large, irregularly shaped and un-re-giftable.

How about the little people collection? The castle was pretty bulky!

I have been meaning to tell you but keep forgetting that Adam and I get a juvenile chuckle out of the Richard Scarry book you sent Emmet, we just can't say "Oh no, here comes dirty dick in his dirty dirt dump truck" without giggling like we are in third grade.

Hmmm. I'll have to think about the Fisher Price. I'm not sure if it is 100% Danny's to give away--it may be a family toy.
Richard Scarry is great that way--he is never ironic or acknowledges any double entendres. But some of the subtext is really funny. Especially the little married animal couples, that dude who loves pickles so much, Lowly Worm (with his unwormlike giant round head) in his one-legged pant hopping around town etc.
